April 18 - Testing Day

  • All students attend
  • All 10th graders will be taking the Pre-ACT.
  • 11th graders who have opted-in by March 21 will take the SAT
  • All other students will choose Flex periods to attend on the morning of 4/18. These will be selected during an upcoming Advisory.
  • School will be dismissed at 12:30pm

SHOW YOUR APPRECIATION! Nominate a valued 4J employee or volunteer for the annual Golden Apple Awards at 4j.lane.edu/goldenapple.

Who do you appreciate? An inspiring teacher? An encouraging classified employee? An administrator who leads by example? An amazing volunteer who gives their all? Now is the time to recognize their contributions.

Employees also can be nominated for the new Apple Seed award for early-career staff, the Lifetime Achievement award or the 4J Spotlight award (for individuals or teams).

If purchasing a cap & gown presents a financial burden, we can arrange for grads to borrow a set; simply contact Eric directly with grad's name and height.

****Any graduates who are interested in giving a speech or a musical performance during the ceremony must audition. Auditions will be after school on Tuesday, April 15! More information can be found on our Graduation 2025 page.

****There will be an informational meeting for seniors on April 18 at 9:30am in the cafeteria
 

Rising 8th-Grader Parent Info Night

Know any parents of current 8th graders heading our way next year? Spread the word!

Save the date for our in-person Incoming 9th Grade Parent Information Night event on Thursday, April 3rd from 6:00-7:30pm in the auditorium. Our administrators, 9th grade counselor, department leads, and 9th grade transition coordinator look forward to sharing information and reviewing the course selection (forecasting) process, including information pertaining to students in both Classic South and IHS. You will also be able to sign up for Summer Bridge and take a tour from one of our student representatives. For families who are unable to attend, a recording of the information/slideshow will be available the following school day

Student Volunteering Opportunities:

4/3 and 4/6: Abby's Closet 2025 Prom Dress Giveaway Event (set up and tear down only)
  • High school students can set up and tear down, but during the event, itself, all volunteers must be out of high school.
  • Event takes place at the Oregon Convention Center.

  • Sign up to volunteer by Monday, 3/24.
  • Event takes place at Matthew Knight Arena.

4/11-13: Friends of the Eugene Public Library Book Sale
  • At the Lane County Fairgrounds
  • 4/11 shifts from 8:30-10:30 or 10-1: Unload and set up books.
  • 4/12 shifts from 7:30-10, 8:30-11:30, 11-2, or 1:30-4:30: Greet and help shoppers, re-stock books.
  • 4/13 shifts from 9:30-12:30 or 12:15-3:15: Greet and help shoppers, re-stock books.

4/12: Lane County Audubon Society Annual Bike Path Cleanup
  • Meet near Euphoria Chocolate Company at Stewart and Bertelsen Roads, just north of West 11th Ave.
  • 10 am-1 pm
  • Staff from the Bureau of Land Management will offer guidance and support.
  • Bags and tools will be provided.
  • Bring your own gloves, water, hand sanitizer, and snacks.

Career Center Current Events:

Tuition-Free LCC course for current high-school juniors and seniors during LCC’s 2025 spring or summer term. Any (one) course worth 1-5 credits for which students have met the prerequisites qualifies. Students will still pay for course fees and materials.

Emergency services CTE and HOPE Factory (construction trades) CTE programs now available to forecast for next year. These CTE programs, offered by Lane Education Service District (LESD), are available for juniors and seniors. Forecasting information for both programs is linked below. Interested students should fill out the interest form (linked in the flyers) and check in with their counselors. (These programs can be more complicated to work into a student's schedule than they may initially realize.) Need resume help? Want to practice for a job interview? Most Wednesdays from 1-2:30, we have a job-prep pro in the College and Career Center ready to help you. Email Lori Sauter (sauter_l@4j.lane.edu) to make an appointment. Day and time is negotiable if Wednesday afternoons don’t work.


3/21: Deadline to opt in to take the free in-school SAT at SEHS. See below for details (4/18).

3/24: Junior Beaver Preview Day, 9 am-1 pm@OSU Cascades. Tour the OSU-Cascades campus with a current student, learn about admissions, and get your financial aid and scholarship questions answered.

3/26: Connected Lane County’s monthly Wonder Wednesday workshop. Free event held in person at two locations [Spark at Booth-Kelly (303 S 5th St, Suite 150, Springfield) and the Cottage Grove Community Center (700 E Gibbs Ave, Cottage Grove)] with a virtual option, as well. Classes run from 4:30-5:30 pm, with free dinner available at 4:00 pm. This month’s topic: Taxes (what you need to know about filing your taxes).

3/31: Eugene Police Department’s Cadet Program application deadline. For students interested in law enforcement or public service careers. Chance to gain firsthand experience in law enforcement. Mix of classroom instruction, hands-on training, mentorship, and police ride-alongs. Meets once a week on Wednesdays from 5-8 pm at the Eugene Police Department. 

3/31: LCC’s RTEC101 course begins. Free, 1-credit, hybrid LCC class for seniors. This class is all about preparing you with the necessary tools and resources you need to become a successful student at Lane.

3/31: MedSplash application deadline at 5 pm. For current 9th-11th graders interested in healthcare careers. This annual summer camp for health sciences will take place 6/16-20 and 6/23-27, 9 am-4 pm at LCC. Hands-on experience with medical equipment while learning about high wage and in-demand health careers. Questions? Contact Hanna Hostick

3/31: OSAC Scholarships application deadline to submit corrections. If a student’s application requires corrections, correct this promptly. Students who make corrections after mid-March may not be considered for all selected scholarships. Students will only be considered for scholarships once they have “Valid” application status.

4/1: Regular-decision applicants to 4-year colleges usually receive admission decisions by this date. Students should request that their final transcript be sent to their chosen school once they decide, if required by that school.

4/1: UO’s SAIL Program registration opens. Free weeklong day programs for rising high school juniors and seniors from low-income families. Hosted on the UO campus. Participants learn about different academic areas from faculty members and about college and career readiness through fun, social and interactive activities. Opportunity for high school credit to be earned.

4/4: LCC’s High School Engineering Design Competition 2025 registration deadline. Event will take place 4/26 from 10 am-12 pm in LCC’s Building 5 (gymnasium). Teams of up to 4 high school students build a “Circular Mousetrap Car” and compete to see how far it drives. Questions? Email Dan Harbowy <harbowyd@lanecc.edu>.

4/4: Bearcat Day, 8:00 am - 8:00 pm@Willamette University. Experience student life, attend a class, dine at Goudy, and explore Salem. Join on campus or virtually.

4/18: The SAT will be offered during the school day for free to juniors who opt in by Friday, 3/21. Testing will begin at 8:30 am. Room assignments will be communicated closer to the test date. We recommend preparing in advance for the SAT using the Full-Length Digital SAT Practice Tests on Bluebook and Official Digital SAT® Prep through Khan Academy. Juniors should also update the BlueBook app located in their apps folder on their 4J laptop before taking the SAT.

4/18: The PreACT will be offered during the school day for free to all sophomores. Testing will begin at 8:30 am. Room assignments will be communicated closer to the test date.
  • Cost: There is NO cost to take the PreACT.
  • Sign-Up: Students DO NOT need to sign up or opt in.
  • Format: The PreACT is a practice ACT that covers high school standards in English, math, reading, and science.
  • Test Type: This is a pencil and scantron paper exam.
